A fresh start for 2015!
MODE-K takes a new simpler look!

Hey readers! MODE-K is finally back but only to bid farewell for another few months. As soon as this year's #SummerInStyle drew to an end, I literally had no time to work on the blog. I did mention about my #WinterInStyle feature but then exams, holidays abroad, coming back and getting ready for my next adventure - I'll be blogging about it, no worries!
Anyhow, here's what is going to be the only #WinterInStyle feature this winter: Inverness Winter. Enjoy!

Hello readers! First up, I owe you a massive apology for the super late late LATE #WinterInStyle feature, which will probably only consist of a couple of posts instead of being a full-fledged series like the #SummerInStyle series. SO much happened since I completed my end of year exams in late May! Between interning and being out of the country for the holidays, I literally had no time to set up shoots or even put some winter styling tips down for you guys - and god knows I was planning on doing so! Anyhow, I was lucky enough to be able to meet up with the pretty and oh-so-nice Hansinee from Flash de Mode for a #BloggerCollab. Now I'm guessing that you've heard of Collabs from your favourite YouTube vlogging stars in the likes of Superwoman or Connor Franta or Zoella. As for Blogger Collab, it's probably a first. And for this first-ever #BloggerCollab on MODE-K, I sat down - and walked around and took few snaps, of course, - with the 18 year old South East London-based Mauritian-born Hansinee. Girl on the GoWe set out for the picturesque Camden Town around midday and despite the busy streets, we managed to find ourselves a few quiet spots only a walk way from the shops and restaurants. Even though I asked to sport a rather smart-casual look, which was what I was feeling confident enough to talk to you about (I must confess that womenswear is not my forte although, to be fair, basic styling never truly changes from men to women), because she had a meeting early morning, here she was, teeth out, all prepped up in a smart look. She picked a pastel pink chiffon blouse for £10 from PRIMARK (I guess the equivalent in Mauritius would be RED SNAPPER for the pricing and FASHION HOUSE for the quality and diversity - trust me, it's quite the Eldorado for affordable fashion pieces here in London!) and black trousers from NEXT for £32 as her innerwear pieces. As outerwear pieces, she donned a textured printed blazer from H&M for £35 and her loafers from BELLISIMO for £60. She then completed her look with a gold necklace from TOPSHOP for £6, rings from NEXT again, for £10 the pack of 10 and an oversized black faux-leather bag from ZARA which she bought for £35, on sale! The interesting thing about London weather is that it has similarities with climate in Mauritius. It can go from sunny to cloudy and windy within one bus trip and it is therefore essential to have a versatile outfit, one which can be altered with one or two items to switch and suit one weather or the other. This smart business-y attire is not only pleasing to the eye but also function. If the sun peeks out, ditch the blazer into the oversized bag and you're good to go. The flowy sleeves add to the airy and summery vibe to the now 'sunny-day' look. You will also note that she is not sporting her bag on her shoulder, which I think is the best way to wear it, for a girl like Hansinee. She is not of the tallest sort and for a petite girl, wearing an oversized bag as she does in the first picture will only shorten and pull you down, making you appear even smaller. Plus, I'm sure it gets really tiring holding it on half-arm! You might have also noticed that she picked dark brown leather loafers instead of matching her shoes to her black faux-leather bag. And it's completely fine! Yes. And this is where menswear and womenswear styling diverges: while men need to match their accessories (belt & shoes, shoes & watch, or belt & watch), women on the other hand can mix and match colours when it comes to accessories. And as you can see, dark brown and black is always a safe option. Hansinee's glasses are probably the most interesting accessory when we come to talk about colours. The frame, as you'll notice further down in the close-up shots, bears both brown and black, serving as a guide to colour mix-and-match. Urban chic
So here it is guys - or girls rather. This is it for this special girls-only #WinterInStyle feature. I hope this has been informative and fun!
Wish you a cosy, stylish winter in Mauritius! And stay tuned for menswear winter styling tips coming up soon! All the way from London, toodles! Sine Cera Hey readers! Winter is only, officially, a few days away (around mid-May, not sure about the exact date this year) and I just realised that I had never posted my #ResortRetreat yet! So before Summer 2015 is over, and before it's too late to run away from our hectic lives into cosy summery little havens, here's my take on the basics of looking good while you're on vacation, tanning by your hotel pool...
